Cheers to 2018 being just around the corner. It’s officially time to turn the leaf, start a new chapter, have a fresh canvas, oh and keep that New Year’s resolution for the next 365 days, right?

It’s no secret that sticking to a New Year’s resolution is not just a walk around the block. It takes dedication, determination, and perseverance. If you say you’re going to exercise for 300 out of the 365 days of 2018, well, just do it! And, if you’re motivated to put $10 a day in your savings account for the entire year, then good on you. But realistically, we all struggle to stick to our self promises. We’re human, it’s normal to wake up in the morning and absolutely dread the gym, or spend that $10 on a pumpkin chai latte instead of saving it and drinking your normal, home brewed, coffee.

Diet and Exercise

Exercising and eating healthy is probably the most common New Year’s resolution. It’s important to take care of your body so it’s great if your resolution is to be a healthier you! It’s also very difficult to stay true to your resolution because, lets be honest, it’s hard to say no to the chocolate chip cookie and it’s difficult to leave the house and go to the gym when your favorite TV show is on. Try creating an inspiration board in your home. Find photos online or from health magazines of people that you would be proud to compare yourself to, and find pictures of foods that you strive to eat on a daily basis. When you wake up each morning, look at your inspiration board and use that as a reminder of why you chose diet and exercise as your resolution. Track your progress with photos of yourself as well. As the months go on, you can compare each picture and see how much progress you’re making. These are all great ways to stay on track to a healthier you!

Many people choose to expand their reading list as their New Year’s resolution. This a great way to gain more knowledge and expand your creative mind. Create a reading list on something like a chalk board or dry erase board. Mount the board somewhere in your home where you’ll see it everyday. This will be your motivation to read more as well as act as a check list so you can check off each book as you finish them. This resolution is also a great one to help you kick your feet up and relax more often through out the year!

More Outdoor Time

A great New Year’s resolution is finding motivation to spend more time in nature. Being outdoors and breathing in fresh air is good for your brain and body and makes you feel good. Nature is an excellent place to alleviate stress and prepare you for another day. Fill your home will lots of plants and cut out some pictures of outdoor scenes from magazines. Put them up on your refrigerator so every time you go to get something to eat, you’re reminded to take a break from your day to day routine to get outside and smell the flowers!

Put Some Cash Away

Saving money is not an easy task. Between living expenses and going out every once in a while, it’s difficult to build your savings account. Making a New Years resolution to save a certain amount of money every month is a great goal that’s very rewarding. To try and save, choose a food or material item that you’re used to buying for yourself every month, and cut it out for only the month. Once the month is over, move on to something different to eliminate. For example: If you’re used to buying lunch during you lunch break, bring food from home every day for an entire month to help you save that money. Once that month is over, switch over to resisting treating yourself to a manicure every month. This is a great way to not only save money, but also teach yourself that you can live without your gourmet croissant sandwich and gel tip nails, for at least a little bit.

Take On A New Hobby

Teaching yourself something new is always a fun and exciting task. It shows you that you’re capable of learning something from scratch and it’s a productive way to fill your time. For example, if you want to pick up golf, join a club so you can surround yourself with other golfers that will keep you motivated and challenged. Schedule time out of your schedule every week by creating reminders on your smart phone to stop whatever it is you’re doing, and go golf. Or, if you want to teach yourself how to knit, get yourself excited and motivated by going to the craft store and buying yourself lots of fun colors of yarn and knitting needles. Keep them laying around the house for you to see so that anytime you have some down time, your knitting needs are at easy access. Teaching yourself a new hobby for the year is also a great, new, way to recreate and keep your mind moving.
